Proportions

We were introduced to human proportions. A human is usually about 7-8 heads tall. Our task was to create an elf that was 9 heads tall and a little 4 heads big dwarf.

Text and Key scripts

This week I managed to get a lot of coding done thanks to my classmates help. I'm really happy about things that are working at the moment and cant wait to get the remaining scripting done.

We managed to use a button as a "Key" that lets the character open a door.

Also with help of free assests created an explosion trigger

And use GUI text to display text when entering the trigger

I  also managed to add a lot of sound and it's really interesting to experience how it affects the mood in the game. Next thing i need to do is add the roof and more game objects as well as animate and script the last room of my level.

Temple

This week's session we were told that we have to model a temple using this picture as our template.

This is what my temple looks like after class.

I have some problems, especially with the roofs on the front. My house height seems to be a little bit to tall as well.

Tank

For this weeks assignment we had to draw a tank or some kind of armored vehicle. My hands decided to hurt a lot so this was really hard for me to finish.

I researched tanks and made myself a Moodboard.

I started sketching some thumbnails and sideview ideas for my tank.

When I got the idea of what I wanted to do I started sketching it out. I created a horizontal line that  was outside my canvas  and drew 2 vanishing points that created a 2 point perspective drawing. With help of that I sketched my tank ideas again.

I then sketched It in photoshop and made lineart in Paint tool SAI

After being done with my lineart I coloured my tank, drew shadows and completed my final design.

Particles

Thanks to my classmate John I learned about practicles. He helped me creating fog and electricity effects. I think it really helps create the mood in the game so I'm really glad I learned about it.

I also learned how to add a skybox so I made myself a starry sky.

Session 06

This session we were talking about values. After watching tutorials we had to add value to our own boxes.

It had to be done in greyscale but I decided to try and make it more realistic. Im not so good at realism so that was a good and a fun practice.

Insectoid

In this two weeks we had to design an Insectoid. The only constrains were that the concept had to be researched and insect based.

Since we did a lot of monsters in the past I wanted to make a good guy. I was thinking of creating some kind of guardian or a hunter that protects the village.

But first things first! I created a mood board which got expanded over time.

As always I started developing my ideas on paper. I did some sketches but I wasn't very satisfied with it. (will be scanned and uploaded tommorow)
I continued sketching on my computer. I realized I do a lot of sketches looked the same so my designs looked very simmilar.

I quickly coloured some of this monsters to get the "feel" for it

It reminded me way more of an insect monster than insectoid so I made a few more sketches to modify it. I wanted to keep the lantern and the caterpillar thing.
This is where I found a bug called "lantern bug". I really liked it so I tought using it as a mask for my insectoid could be interesting. I played around with the silhouette and quick colours for a bit. There was too much going on so I modified it a little bit more and got my final design. It is represented in front, side and quarter view; a view for being modeled as a real time 3D character.

My insectoid is a night guardian and brings supplies to his hometown. He is half human half stick insect. He's wearing a Lantern bug mask to make him less recognizable if anyone sees him during the night. He usually wanders around keeping an eye on enemies as well as collects the mysterious turqouise plant. Plants can be only found during the night and are cruical for him and his people to survive.

I think I need to work on my designing stage. I lose way too much time on the design, sticking with the same sillhouete instead of creating something different that I might like.

Game Level

Hi,

I finished watching all tutorials that are about coding for beginners. More details have been added and I'm currently working on my story board.

Turret Textures

Hi,

In this session we had to make a high detailed turret.  After that we extracted high poly and low poly object anf created a normal and ambient occlusion map in xNormal. The maps were then applied onto our low poly turret and made it look like its high poly.

Copying an image

Hi,

Today we had a task to copy a picture that we got printed on a paper. The purpose of this was mainly to figure out how layers work.
I seriously love this type of tasks so I really enjoyed it a lot. I think I did an okay job. although I think I should have payed more attention to the background.

Cake

Hi,

Did some photo reference painting for practice and quite happy with the results.

Left one is my painting and right one is a random google image ~

Gas Pump

Hi,

This weeks homework was to model a Gas pump and lay out UVs.

Here is my model. Left side is without texture and right side is with texture to show the difference.

Monster Assignment

Hi,

This week was Halloween !!!
Our homework assignment was to simply create a monster that's supposed to look scary. I.. pretty much couldn't get satisfied with my design so I made.. more sketches then I was originally planning to.

But first thing was to create my moodboard. Igot inspiration from far more then this but there were too many pictures to fit in here.

I wanted to draw a 4 legged monster and reference it from a chicken. I gave up on it quite fast tho and decided to do something skeleton like.

I decided to colour sketches from the ones I liked the most. That usually gives me enough information if I want to continue that drawing or not.

The poses weren'r dynamic enough and I tought my designs weren't creepy enough either. I decided to make more sketches and even considered to make a two legged monster.
I still didn't like any of them so I went to get some rest. The next day I finally made my sketch and finished it.

Final Drawing:

I quite like the result although I need to work on more dynamic poses. I think if I lowered my horizontal line I could make him look bigger and scarier as well.
