Perspective assignment

Hi,

This week's assignment was to create a drawing using one point perspective.I learnt a bit of perspective before, so that wasn't really anything new for me. I decided to follow the tutorial as well as do my own simmilar drawing.

Winter Assignment

Hi,

Few weeks ago we got an assigment which is due december. We have to make a game level with the following requirements:

1.    Triggers demonstrating all the following with a total of at least three separate triggered events.

·         The triggering of a sound through player input or the players location
·         The triggering of an animation through player input or the players location
·         A event requiring both player input and the players location simultaneously

2.    Music and Sound Effects
3.    Two minutes of game play using the First Person Controller

4.    An exe of your game

I've never done anything simmilar so I think this is going to be the hardest assignment so far. I started with thinking about the genre of my game. After research and thinking I deicded I'll go for Horror Survival.
II watched a lot off different game intro gameplays to get an idea of what I'm supossed to do. My inspirations are Outlast and mainly Bioshock. I love the atmosphere in Bioshock so I'd like to make something simmilar.

My robot designs from visual design homework seemed like they could fit in my game so I decided to include them. I was also always interested in experiments , so I decided that my game will be focused around them.

Story

I'm not good with stories, but I did my best ! I'll keep it short just to give you an idea about what it is.

The story is set in the future. Due to polluted air, humanity struggled to survive. Simmilar to humans, green nature had problems surviving as well and most of the plants had gone instinct. Due to that, people have created robots which carried so called Bulbs. Inside the bulbs they were carrying plants. Those robots could provide fake sunlight, heat and water, making it perfect for nature to survive. They were running on nuclear power. Apart from the robots, people also experimented on babies. They inserted different animal genes into them for the sake of inventing new human abillities that would help them survive in the current circumstances. They were both stored in big laboratories. One experiment didn't go the way they had planned which led to an explosion. Since the majorty was based on nuclear power, every person got killed. Only the corrupted and some of the experiments have remained behind.

You will be playing as one of the surviving experiments, trying to find your way out of the laboratory.

I made a rough sketch for my onesheet (since I know I'll be most likely changing things)

After I was done with that I decided it's time to model my level out in Maya. Firstly i've struggeled a lot. My character was falling trough the floor. After fixing that problem my walls weren't displaying right and half of the things I modelled were gone. Although with help of our tutor I figured out that my normals we're flipped. I decided to redo the whole level and now everything works. Yay!

I placed some lights and added colours to get the general idea of the size and atmosphere in my game.

This is how my game level looks like at the moment :

And a few screenshots while playing the game:

My next step will be modelling more details and adding some scripts that we've learnt in our class. My storyboard has to be done in the next two weeks and  I also need to figure out how to make objects transparent. I've got a lot of problems with lights, but hopefully I'm gonna find my answers soon.

Futuristic Weapon

Hi,
This week we had to design a futuristic weapon, either one or two handed. It had to be a mechanical gun and a projectile firing gun.
As usually, I started off by doing research. I was mostly inspired by other artists and guns from the game called Borderlands. This is my mood board :

After doing all the research, I decided to do a few sketches. I finished my sketches using a fine pen and turned them into mechanical drawings. I also used a ruler to make my drawings more precise. Since I wanted to present my sketches in a nice way I scanned them and included a texture background in Photoshop.

Personally, I tought the second and third sketch were the best ones. I chose key elements from each and created a new design as my final one.

Personal Work: Red Riding Hood

Hi,

This summer I had an opportunity to draw illustrations for a company that develops mobile apps. The Application is a storytelling app with different illustrations from various artists. I got a well known story called Red Riding Hood. According to the story, I had to draw 10 illustrations and design all the characters.  Due to my hand injury I had to quit so I couldn't finish it,which made me quite sad.

This is the result from my work:

Silhouette painting

Hi,

In today's class we watched a video from one of my biggest inspirations, Feng Zhu. His video was a tutorial about creating monsters by painting silhuettes.

Link to his channel on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/FZDSCHOOL

We had to draw 3 silhouettes and they had to be done using a hard brush and black colour in Photoshop. It was a difficult task, especially the designing part. All 3 silhuoettes were supposed to be a different form so it was quite challenging.I had a lot of fun doing these and will probably try to do more of them in my free time.

Tentacle creature

Hi,

Our homework assigment for Visual design was to create a monster with minimum of 4 tentacles.
We had to use either a realistic or stylised approach. I decided to go for realistic and I tried making it terrifying. Since I never really drew scary monsters before I tought this would be a geat challenge.

I started off with making a Mood board, which is basicaly a file with photo refferences. An Octpopus was my main reference. I also researched other animals with tentacles like snails, squids and jellyfishes. After collecting reference pictures of tentacles I also tried to find other concept art from various artists to use it as my inspiration.

Next stage was sketching. I didnt really know what I was going for so... This is my first result.

I gotta admit this sketch is really bad. My sketches are rushed and mostly make no sense since I prefer working with colour.
Sketch nr. 2

I worked on my monster's sillhouette and got the basic shape to work from. Everything I did next was done digitally.

The sketch was done in photoshop and I tought it was good enough to try and paint it out.
After hours of painting I finished my tentacle monster.

Second Maya Homework

This time we had to create a pry bar by following a Lynda.com tutorial.
This task was way easier than the fish. I've learnt a lot of useful shortcuts and the tutorial explained how to put a texture on an object.

Robot Design

Hi,
Last week our homework was to create our own Robot with a short backstory.
I always admired the contrast between technology and nature, so that's what i decided to go for.

Sketch  No. 1

I was questioning the idea of my robot carrying an egg.
Since I wasnt satisfied with the story, I decided to go for something completely different.
After doing some research i decided to take a gorilla as base for my design. I searched for pictures of gorilla skeletons and that was my inspiration.

Sketches No. 2 and 3
I liked the design of the skull, but there were too many details on its body. Because of that i decided to simplify the form untill I was satisfied with my design.

Final Design
The final design had to be done traditionally and it had to be coloured.

Maya Homework

For our homework we had to follow a Lynda.com tutorial and make our fish in Maya. I've never really used Maya before so everything was pretty new to me.

Here are a few pictures of the process :

And final look :

I still dont properly understand how to put textures and my modeling is still bad but I'll do my best to change it in the future ~

Life drawing

I really love life drawing and I'm glad that it's part of my course.

This week we had a fun task.  Sadly I couldnt do it as I would like to due to my damaged hand, so I adjusted it for myself.

First task was to draw our model only by controling our shoulder.

Next task was to draw by controlling our elbow and wrist only. Since my wrist is damaged I did both by controlling my elbow.

Since my hand was hurting I decided to experiment and draw with my non-dominant hand, which is my right hand.

Last task was to draw however we want to and it was also the one that took most of the time. I decided to draw by controlling my elbow, since that's the technique i feel most comfortable with.
